A hosting control panel alternative priced per server, not per account

Websites, email, DNS, SSL, databases, backups and customer accounts on your own Linux server, for one flat price however many customers you host. If a licence renewal sent you looking for a control panel alternative, this is what UHost does differently.

Why people switch

Three things a control panel alternative should get right.

A price that does not grow with you

Some panels cost more as a server hosts more accounts. A UHost licence covers the server: Pro hosts unlimited websites for $19.95 a month, and the hundredth customer costs what the first did.

A panel people can find their way around

Every tool is one search away: type a domain, a customer or "ufw ports" and land on it. Long forms are pages, not boxes that scroll, and every page says what it does.

Safe settings from the first website

Websites are isolated, protection against scanners and password guessing is on, and the firewall refuses a rule that would cut you off from your own panel.

What comes across

The jobs your panel does today, and how UHost does them.

The jobIn UHost
Websites and PHPStatic, PHP with several versions side by side, Node.js applications and reverse proxies, each website in its own Linux account.
Email and webmailPostfix and Dovecot mailboxes, forwarding, Roundcube webmail, DKIM signing, spam filtering and automatic mail client setup.
DNS zonesAuthoritative PowerDNS with your own nameservers, created automatically with each website.
SSL/TLSLet's Encrypt for every website, renewed automatically, or your own certificate checked before it is installed.
MySQL databasesMariaDB with an account per database, SQL import, backups, storage limits and phpMyAdmin.
File manager and FTPA browser file manager, SFTP locked to each website, and extra file transfer accounts.
BackupsFile snapshots and recovery points with every database, on a schedule, copied to S3 or SFTP.
Installing WordPressWordPress and Joomla from checksum-verified downloads, with website copies for staging.
Accounts and packagesCustomers with their own logins, hosting packages, allowances and roles.
TransfersWebsites pulled over SSH from any Linux server, archives and account backups imported, and whole servers moved an account at a time from the most widely used hosting panel.

Honest about the gaps

What UHost leaves out, on purpose.

A few things other panels have are not in UHost, and not because nobody got round to them. Each was weighed and left out.

  • Bandwidth metering per website. It exists to sell metered plans, and nothing about hosting a website safely depends on it.
  • Autoresponders and catch-all addresses. A catch-all collects spam for whoever turns it on.
  • A malware scanner. A scanner that misses is believed. UHost stops what a compromised website is used for instead.
  • A Python application runtime. Node.js, PHP and containers cover it.
  • Reseller accounts. A role nobody has asked for is a permission nobody tests.
  • Email migration. Not yet: addresses found in a backup are listed so you can create them.

Switching

Change panels without leaving your websites behind.

Give UHost SSH access to the old server, or upload a backup. It lists what it found before it creates anything, then moves the files, databases and domains.

Questions about switching

Is UHost an alternative to the panel I use now?

If your panel hosts websites, email, DNS, SSL certificates, databases, backups and customer accounts with hosting packages, UHost does those jobs. It runs on your own Linux server, Ubuntu 24.04 LTS today, and is priced per server rather than per account. A few features other panels have are left out on purpose, and the comparison page lists them.

Is UHost priced per account?

No. A licence covers a server, and Pro hosts as many websites and customer accounts as that server can hold for $19.95 a month. Adding a customer never changes the price.

Can I move my websites from my old panel?

Yes. Let UHost sign in to the old server over SSH and pull a website across, or upload an archive of its files. Full account backups in the most widely used hosting panel's format are read as they are, with their databases and domains. WordPress and Joomla are pointed at their new database, and before anything is created UHost shows what it found and what will not come across.

Your servers, without the per-account bill.

UHost launches 13 October 2026: the whole panel free for one website, and Pro for unlimited websites on a server.
